I started a new group on yahoo- Critique Partners Wanted.
Basically its just a group to help others find critique partners. If you know others searching, please feel free to pass on the information. Its brand new and simple. All a writer has to do is post in the discussion who they are, what genre they write, and what they are looking for. It will be up to the members to match themselves up.
If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

Discipline
I have come to learn something about myself as a writer. I don't just enjoy challenges and blogfests, they actually help me write. I need them in my own sick way to push myself forward.
Currently I'm enjoying myself on writing.com
I have accepted a 30 day Character sketch challenge that is doing wonders for my writing. I receive points for writing 500 words everyday on a prompt the Host sends me about my character.
I am using this to my advantage. I have had a story sitting inside me for a few months now, and when I saw the challenge I jumped at the idea of really diving into my character and trying my hand at writing everyday.
I've discovered that self discipline, when it comes to writing, is the hardest thing for me to overcome. And if I were ever to give anyone advice on writing and how to do it, I'd suggest participating in challenges that make you write at least 500 words every day.
How do you feel about writing challenges- do they encourage you to keep going or are they bothersome to you?

Trip
Alright! Looks like the old editor works for me. So here we go.
Writing updates: I am on Chapter six of my new wip almost at 12,000 words. WooHoo!
The trip to Denver went really well. We left at 6am, I did so much homework in an attempt to enjoy the weekend that I was dog tired when we made it to the hotel at 11am. We all took a nap then headed to the indoor swimming pool.
Saturday we went to water world and the kids had so much fun! We swam most the time in a small wave pool in Captain Jack's area because people were standing for almost two hours just to get on one ride or slide.
Then on Sunday we went to the Aquarium- Which is very neat. There was actually a sea turtle attacking a poor diver trying to feed the fish because it wanted the food. LOL
Then we were lost for an hour and a half attempting to find City park to go to the Science museum, when we managed to find it we decided on the Zoo since it was right next to the museum and we left Denver at 3pm.

17/20 rejections and misc.
Hello everyone!
First, if you are looking for my Poetry schmoetry blogfest poem click here.
I received rejection number 17 last Friday. I'm so very close to my 20 rejection goal! Then I'll be making my collage. I've posted the rejection in my rejection tab if you want to look at it.
I have one more out in submission. Now I have to do some revisions to submit more stories.
I had a blast at the fair yesterday with my girls. We spent 7 hours riding rides and man was I tired last night but I slept amazingly well.
Don't forget to sign up for my Inspiration blogfest- it is coming next week and I'm super excited to see everyone's prompts! I know you all will come up with some great inspiration to write from!
Happy writing!

Poetry Schmoetry Blogfest Entry
Yup I'm participating in yet another blogfest hosted by Shelly called the Poetry Schmoetry Blogfest
I am going to the parade and the fair today with my beautiful girls so I will not be around- but I will catch up with all the participants through out the week.
Her rules are easy:
"1. Follow this blog
2. Sign up by filling out the Linky below
3. Write a Poem
(ANY kind of poem or you could even blog about 'why I hate poetry.' I'm cool with that.)
4. Post your poem the week of July 11th-14th (midnight PST)
BAM!
You did it!"
So without further waiting here is a poem--
Donella
by Summer Ross
A lost gentleman envisions a light
A ray of hope in despair…He declares
“Donella- brown haired fairy girl”
A name given by a tender maker.
Her diaphanous wings spread,
Floating a small frame, diluted
In affections and safety.
His misconceptions. She lingers.
She is but the polish on
his beaten, disheartening thoughts.
He is the dark whisper and laughter
in her shrouded memories.
Disorientated is the gentleman
within his awakened state.
Empty in his compassion,
shattered in his own darkness.
Wing tips break as chains
bind her within his heart.
Panic filled tears, falling
down polluted, frail skin.
Her spirit chants of banshees
reaping hope from their screams.
Gnawing jagged teeth against shackled,
endearing thoughts, gutting love.
Donella falls through cracks,
carnage of unfilled delusions.
She lands, shattering wings
against unyielding stone.
The stone engulfs the docile creature
stuffed in its pocket, salt lingers
on a garnet half smile, when
she opens her eyes the stone whispers,
“My pocket fairy with broken wings.”

mother VS author
I'm going through some interesting feelings I'm not sure how to put into words.
Lately my oldest (who is spending most of the summer with her father) has texted me or came home and asked "Mom do you have something else published?"
My reply is usually no, but she keeps asking even when she has not read the pieces or is unable to read them because she is only ten and I'm a picky mother.
I'm halfway glad she is taking an interest in me in this way- she is seeing me in ways she sees other authors which is a really strange feeling for me as her mother.
The other half wonders if she is disappointed in me because the answer is no.
This is my little girl, she is growing up too fast, and as a mother I want her to be proud of me, but as an author I'm not sure how to feel about it. Perhaps she is not disappointed in me, but is just curious.

Planning a trip
First let me say the kids were wonderful waiting for fireworks yesterday. Now for the juicy stuff.
On July 22nd My family is going to Denver Colorado to play at water world, see the nature and science museum, check out the animals at the zoo, and finally visit the aquarium. Three day trip and everyone is super excited! It is my only weekend off at school and I'm going to celebrate it with loads of fun!
I'll make sure to take lots of pictures too so I can share the good ones with all of you.
Have a great Tuesday- back to homework.
