Yup I'm participating in yet another blogfest hosted by Shelly called the Poetry Schmoetry Blogfest
I am going to the parade and the fair today with my beautiful girls so I will not be around- but I will catch up with all the participants through out the week.
Her rules are easy:
"1. Follow this blog
2. Sign up by filling out the Linky below
3. Write a Poem
(ANY kind of poem or you could even blog about 'why I hate poetry.' I'm cool with that.)
4. Post your poem the week of July 11th-14th (midnight PST)
BAM!
You did it!"
So without further waiting here is a poem--
Donella
by Summer Ross
A lost gentleman envisions a light
A ray of hope in despair…He declares
“Donella- brown haired fairy girl”
A name given by a tender maker.
Her diaphanous wings spread,
Floating a small frame, diluted
In affections and safety.
His misconceptions. She lingers.
She is but the polish on
his beaten, disheartening thoughts.
He is the dark whisper and laughter
in her shrouded memories.
Disorientated is the gentleman
within his awakened state.
Empty in his compassion,
shattered in his own darkness.
Wing tips break as chains
bind her within his heart.
Panic filled tears, falling
down polluted, frail skin.
Her spirit chants of banshees
reaping hope from their screams.
Gnawing jagged teeth against shackled,
endearing thoughts, gutting love.
Donella falls through cracks,
carnage of unfilled delusions.
She lands, shattering wings
against unyielding stone.
The stone engulfs the docile creature
stuffed in its pocket, salt lingers
on a garnet half smile, when
she opens her eyes the stone whispers,
“My pocket fairy with broken wings.”

Hi,
Enchantingly sad poem, Summer. Adore the last line: says it all!
best

Lovely! I especially like the "She is but the polish on his beaten, disheartening thoughts." Well done.
Lovely poem. It is very sad, but beautiful at the same time. I love the imagery (especially in the last three stanzas "falls through cracks... shattering wings against unyielding stone" = exceptionally powerful and visual). Thanks for sharing :)
Poor Donella. Does he want her broken so she stays with him?
That was intense and vividly worded. I'll have to read through it again to let it sink in. Thanks for sharing!
Dang, that last line was a killer. Now not only am I exhausted, I'm sad. But it is a great poem!
I wanted to go to the fair, why didn't you ask me? :)

Summer,
I really loved this, the imagery was beautiful. And you inspired me, a total poetry novice, to enter the poetry blogfest, too!

Oh a STORY poem, awesome! This blogfest has been crazy fun.
Okay, so you're an amazing poet! Your story was told beautifully with those rhythmic lines; well done!
Great descriptive words. I love it!
Great poem Summer, it's really beautiful! :)
Wow! Ouch! Beautiful, painfully beautiful, but beautiful. Thank you. Loved the lines "He is the dark whisper and laughter in her shrouded memories."
Great stuff, Summer - vivid and very effective.
Beautiful imagery laced with overpowering sadness. I'm glad I found you through the blogfest! Julie
Oh my favorite line is definitely the last one. I like the image of a pocket fairy with broken wings. I also DON'T like the image of a pocket fairy with broken wings ;)
Thanks Summer for all your help in the 'fest. You are awesome!
Beautiful wording for this poem. I really like the way it flowed.
So beautiful! I love the line, "Wing tips break as chains - bind her within his heart." Absolutely gorgeous, wonderful entry.
So many layers, thoughts, emotions, vivid imagery. I loved the graceful, tragic ride of your poem - rich with the power to evoke images in the mind and heart. Thanks!
So beautiful, Summer. I loved that last line. And the imagery in the middle is quite stunning. Well done!
So sad. Amazing how you had a story with just a few stanzas. Beautiful imagery too. Well done!
