I don't know why but last May I felt a serious compulsion to try a genre I had never written in and it happened to be steampunk.I found it fascinating- the Victorian mixed with gears and gadgets- what's not to love.

I'm still inspired by it almost a year later. I wrote a dozen short stories all in steam punk. I read three or four steam punk books and found them intriguing. I also learned I'm not a fan of blimps. LOL

Steampunk is such a visually rich genre, and so new that it's still relatively unexplored.
Awesome how trying steampunk got you inspired to continue writing it. I like to read it, but don't write in that genre.

I've only read 1 steampunk book. I liked it, so I'll probably read more. Though contemporary captures more of my interest.
I made the entity Tyme a Steampunk girl in my THREE SPIRIT KNIGHT. I had fun with it. RITES OF PASSAGE is a Steampunk Western. I love the genre. Thanks for visiting today!

I really ought to read this VanderMeer Steampunk collection that's been sitting on my shelf for years. I keep putting it off because as much as I want to know how the genre functions, the aesthetic and nostalgia for its time period have no power over me. Maybe I haven't encountered the right things someone decided to put clockwork into... It's what I keep telling myself.

I love looking at Steampunk themed things. So imaginative! I've yet to read a Steampunk book and am curious if I could write one.

Steampunk fascinates me too. A genre I tried was a bit of western. I'm not a fan of standard westerns, but I like the idea of paranormal westerns. Or steampunk cowboys!
I love Victorian era work, but I have not really gotten into steampunk all that much. But I have been trying!

I've read a little steampunk, but never really got into writing it. I did try 1st person POV, and contemporary, both of which are so far outside my usual range they might as well be on another planet.

Steampunk is such a neat genre, although I haven't taken the time to delve into writing it yet, but I do enjoy reading steampunk stories.
Steampunk was totally new to me until I saw an exhibit in San Diego last summer. Very cool!
I had the same thing happen; I had a steampunk story idea but very little familiarity with it. Fortunately there's a ton of room in the genre for variability.
Have you read Lindsay Buroker's Emperor's Edge series? It's a steampunk/ancient Rome mix. And her first novel is free on Amazon (although I should warn you, the series is really addictive).

I only really became aware of what it was - as the Olympics Opening Ceremony used the Steampunk genre! Now I'm sort of hooked to know more ..
