If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

A Grand New Age of Boom or Dust?

~If you are looking for my feature follow- it's HERE ~

Boomtown Craze, Book 3 in the Backworlds series is here!

In the far future, humanity settles the stars, bioengineering its descendents to survive in a harsh universe.

To secure his future, Craze must propel his world into a more prosperous era. Only days away from the grand opening of his new and improved tavern, he is confronted by a loony Backworlder intent on mucking up his plans. Gaunt and trembling, she claims her spaceship is possessed. She also has a connection to the underworld that shakes loose the dark past of one of Craze’s closest friends. It all threatens to end Craze’s prosperity before it begins.

Meanwhile off world, Captain Talos works desperately to outwit the mercenary Jixes and lure them away from his and Craze’s budding prospects. The mind-control weapon Talos uses against them is wearing thin, and his next move may be his last.

Will Craze and Talos’s efforts bring about a grand new age of boom or damn them to forever struggle in the dust?

Contest

The Literary Lab is hosting a new anthology contest.

I do not have the time to submit anything for it, but it is a great opportunity for writers. They have two cash prizes that go with this anthology this year and I adore the cover for it. I hope you consider submitting something to them.

I was published with them back in March and they are very supportive.

Want to submit a story somewhere?

Hey everyone- Its the end of January already! Wow what a month. I'm going to take this moment to show you some challenging markets.

Before I do- here is what I have to say about submitting a story to a magazine- I have very specific preferences to those I choose to submit to, and those I tell other people about. Lets put it this way- If I'm not willing to submit a piece for them- I wouldn't dare suggest someone else should.

There are bad places to submit your work- here is what I look for

A credible magazine- Like writers digest. They are well known, not on the preditors list, and they try to help new writers.

I also look for markets that don't request you send them a payment, usually anyway. There are things I submit to- to help others like submitting to a charity cause- obviously this is okay if you have to pay for a book your work is accepted in- as long as you research and make sure they are not just taking you on a run around.

I do not require a magazine has to pay me- because exposure is payment- but I don't count out the ones who do pay(Bonus)

With that said- you know I do alot of research on this kind of thing, so with out further ramblings of my corks, I give you open submissions-

 The first line literary Journal
This one is a challenge because they provide you with a first line for each of their publications. You can't change the line- it has to be used in order to submit and they have very specific reading times for submissions.
This also pays you if your work is accepted. (Bonus!)

 Reading writers
The deadline here is May 15th.
This also pays you if your work is accepted (Bonus!)

 L. Ron Hubbard
Science fiction, unpublished authors wanted!
This also pays you if your work is accepted. (Bonus!)

The Pedestal magazine
Now is the time to submit: Poetry and fiction
This also pays you if your work is accepted. (Bonus!)

Alright there you have what I know, now go check out guidelines, check out the magazines, and start writing!
Don't be afraid- If you want something- go for it. Just please please please be sure to follow their rules.

A contest and my free write

So I have a new blogging buddy, Christine H. at http://thewritershole.blogspot.com/who in all her glory is having a 100 blogger contest with a fantastic first prize! You have got to get over there and check it out, its a great resource for a writer. There's a good second and third prize too, but what can I say, the writer thing really got me :) anyway here's the linkiness to her blog 100 blogger contest

I've found some interesting things on fellow bloggers blogs :) heres what I enjoyed on the web this week, and what might benefit you:
emerging writer (short story competition)
Romancing the blogs ( publisher looking for submissions)
red means go ( a new store with funny cartoons)
Awesome music about writing(funny)

Now for some free writing: Its Friday 13th!!!! I'm not superstitious, so black cats, salt, ladders, mirrors do not scare me. Actually when I was in 5th grade my best girlfriend and I would rent every Freddy Crugar and Jason movie and stay up all night eating now and laters watching horror movies. Fun times, I used to even write some spooky stories, or what I thought was spooky at the time. I looked and looked and looked- but I can't find them. But I did find a spooky little poem I wrote....

 Ragdoll
by summer Ross

Ragdoll come out of the closet
share your nightmare tales.
Walk to my bed on backward legs
climb sheets with bitten hands,
whispering in my sleep subconcious
of all shadowmare land.
Let the words fall from splintered lips,
to fill my precious dreams.
Let out all the horrible things I fear,
tell of creatures with fired wings,
tell of animals that give chase
watch sweat drip from my brow.
Don't let up, till I'm upright
and let out the familiar scream.

I heart comments~~ You all Rock my world!
