If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

The End

Chapter 2010 ends today, this is the last page to be flipped.

I leave you this year with one fairy:

A shadow fairy, because in the end we look back on the shadow of a year that remains locked in our memories...

inside those pages

I'm writing this up on the fly because all these words are roaming around in my head. I am reading this book called The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield and while I'm reading I'm not only captivated by her story, but her rich deeper meaning to a writer and a reader.

Her words are reaching me on levels very few books do, and I find myself in awe of her abilities. She has put into words how I feel about writing. The longing that thrives there on the pages is the same longing that takes over my heart. I want to write this way I think to myself. I'm taken back by this author.

So I looked her up, and what do I find? She has only written one best selling book, the one I am reading and it was in 2007!

I find this is the problem with me. Its curious to me that the books that touch my deeper levels, my inner writing fairy, are books that are the only ones to that author. Now I realize Diane Setterfield could still write another book, which I will be on the lookout for, but this is not the first time this has happened to me.

Another book that touched me deeply was written back long ago- The Monk by Matthew Lewis. When I read his book I realized right away what touched me deep in his book as well- It was how his story played out- not the characters, not the actual story story. But imagine, if you will, stringing so many different loops together in 8 weeks and bringing the end of the book right up to the first sentence it started with, then overlapping them so many times and still following through with each individual string of a character and their drive. It was an amazing read! I found myself floored by this author- just as I am by Diane Setterfield.

I'm still Working my way through this current read- but I can tell you now it will become a great favorite and I will dive into it's pages many times just to recapture my heart of a writer inside those pages.

I wish I could express the emotions these two books have caused inside me, but the words escape me- any words I could use would only be a remake of what these authors have already said in a much more profound way then I ever could.

So how does it work, they say write in the way you like to read, but I have no one area I read- Fantasy, non-fiction, Literary, Romance...they are all wonderful genres and I do not find one or the other more to my liking then others...Diane's book has a literary feel and Lewis's book is a Gothic novel, and if these are the books that touch me and these are the books that are my favorite how would I write in this kind of mixed genre?

Do all books touch you this deeply? Is there one or two that have reached you on a level you never knew an author could take you? Tell me your experience with this issue...

A short note

Be inspired today!

"People disappear when they die. Their voice, their laughter, the warmth of their breath. Their flesh. Eventually their bones. All living memory of them ceases. This is both dreadful and natural. Yet for some there is an exception to this annihilation. For in the books they write they continue to exist. We can rediscover them. Their humor, their tone of voice, their moods. Through the written word they can anger you or make you happy. They can comfort you. They can perplex you. They can alter you. All this, even though they are dead. Like flies in amber, like corpses frozen in ice, that which according to the laws of nature should pass away is, by the miracle of ink on paper, preserved. It is a kind of magic."
~~ Diane Setterfield, from the book  The Thirteenth Tale

The value of importance

I'm sitting here thinking back...evaluating myself. In 2010 what did I do that is worth remembering about myself?

I accomplished a lot.

Publication- times 2

My Associates Degree in English-

I even talked one of my professors into rethinking commas and how they are used.

I wrote new stories.

I read many books

But out of all of these things I don't find any of them worth while yet. Why , well because my kids are not directly involved.

Here are the important things I did:

I planned two birthday parties and made cakes.

I helped my youngest with her science fair project.

I watched a movie with both of my girls every Wednesday for 4 months.

I helped my daughter practice her Gymnastics and learn to spell new words.

I helped my grandmother get groceries all year long because she can't afford it.

I Volunteered my time at the Mercer house.

I encouraged the community to get involved in Open Mic nights.

I helped my fellow peers and my sister pass English class because I wanted to.

But the most important thing I did last year- I was there when my children needed me for encouragement, for commitment, for help, and through the tears.

Whats your most important thing you did last year?

Rejection

My newest rejection to add to my collage comes from a new magazine called Certain Circuits...

Dear S.A.,

Thank you very much for your submission.  We are still reading for the issue, but we wanted you to know that these did not fit for us.

We hope that you will continue to follow and support our progress, and that you will consider submitting other work in the future.

Best,
Bonnie MacAllister

Author Unknown

I was tagged to post this to other people, so here is the poem by an unknown author. Enjoy!

THE GIFT
Author Unknown

T'WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS,
HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
AND TO SEE JUST WHO
IN THIS HOME DID LIVE.

I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A STRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
NOT EVEN A TREE.

NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
A SOBER THOUGHT
CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
IT WAS DARK AND DREARY,
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
SILENT, ALONE,
CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
NOT HOW I PICTURED
A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

WAS THIS THE HERO OF WHOM I'D JUST READ?
CURLED UP ON A PONCHO, THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
I REALIZED THE FAMILIES
THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

SOON ROUND THE WORLD,
THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

THEY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

I COULDN'T HELP WONDER
HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
AND STARTED TO CRY.

THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
"SANTA DON'T CRY,
THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE;

I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
I DON'T ASK FOR MORE,
MY LIFE IS MY GOD,
MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS."

THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
AND SOON DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
I COULDN'T CONTROL IT,
I CONTINUED TO WEEP.

I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
SO SILENT AND STILL
AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
FROM THE COLD NIGHT'S CHILL.

I DIDN'T WANT TO LEAVE
ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
SO WILLING TO FIGHT.

THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
WHISPERED, "CARRY ON SANTA,
IT'S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE."

ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH, AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT.
"MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND, AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT."

Twisted christmas fairy tale blogfest entry

Hello everyone, here is my blogfest entry for the Twisted Christmas fairy tale blogfest.
This was so much fun to write! I can't wait to read everyone elses blogfest entry.

 The exchange

"Snow White, you just lie back and rest. Remember don't answer the door for anyone. We will be back in the morning." Said Doc

Snow white nodded. Her little men were so sweet and kind to her, they only wished to protect her. She watched each one leave the house. The minute the door shut she rushed off the bed to grab all the presents she hid. She made a gift for each one, Doc, Happy, Dopey, Sneezy, Grumpy, Bashful, and Sleepy. Tomorrow was Christmas Morning and she wanted it to be the best Christmas she could ever give them.

"Knock knock, hello Snow White? I have something important to tell you." an old woman's voice said.

Snow White looked out the window. A hunched over old lady stood on the step. She had a little basket with her covered in a red cloth and her outfit was all white with red hems. A cute little cap sat on her gray hair all turned up in a  bun. Her cheeks were rosy from the falling snow outside. Poor thing. Snow white new she had to let her in or she'd freeze. The door opened and the old woman took a step in.

"Do I know you?" Snow white asked leading her to the fireplace with seven red stockings hanging on the mantle above.

"You should know me." The old woman said as she sat on a lone chair.

"Here let me get you a nice cup of warm milk. I have cookies to if you are hungry."

"Oh that wont be necessary." The old lady pulled the red cloth from her basket and she had cookies and milk tucked inside. "I brought these for you dear."

"Oh how very sweet of you." Snow white picked a little gingerbread man with green frosting. She took the first bite and it tasted so wonderful with sugar and spices she scarfed the whole thing down. "Didn't you say you had something to tell me?"

"Yes dear...would you like some milk before we talk?"

Snow white drank a cup of her milk. It was warm and sweet going down. She briefly wondered how the milk stayed warm when she suddenly saw the fireplace turn into two fireplaces. Her knees shook and she landed hard on the floor knelt beside the old woman.

"Ah now we can talk. You see You have taken my husband Snowwhite. You took Mr. Claus away from me and I just can't have that."

"I don't understand..." Snowwhite slumped to the floor watching the old woman turn into three old women. Her heart sputtered next to her rib cage and the fire was hot on her back.

"You're little men, are all my husband. He saw you and used his Christmas magic to turn himself into dwarfs. Every day when they got to work, he turns back into Santa Claus and goes to the factory at the north pole. He calls me every night to tell me how he will be working late with so many new children coming every year. But You see I followed him and that's how I found you." All the Mrs Claus's rocked back and forth in their chairs smiling down at Snow White.

"What have you done to me?" Snow white's upper lip began to sweat and heat overwhelmed her like a hot flashes.

"Oh don't worry dear, its just a little potion. In a little while you will forget everything, and we will trade places. I'll thank you as you walk out the door to go back to the north pole." Mrs Claus snatched a piece of hair from snow whites head. She placed it in a glass of milk then drank it all in one gulp. Snow white watched as the old Lady turned into her right before her eyes. The next thing she remembered was looking at Snow white standing in front of the door.

"Thank you for the cookies Mrs Claus." Snow white said.

"Oh you are very welcome dear." Mrs Claus shuffled out the door with her empty basket. She knew she had to return to the North Pole to help Mr. Claus get ready for Christmas.

New creation blogfest

Ladies and gents I am doing my second blogfest! WooHoo.

The blogfest is called "New Creation Blogfest"

 Rules:

1)Pick one ending sentence from last years stories, your favorite one that you wrote. (Only one, and yes it has to be an ending sentence)

 2) Write one brand new starting sentence for a story you have been thinking about, or something off the top of your head. But it must be your first sentence. (Yes only one, and yes it must be new.)

Now post your ending and brand new beginning sentence in one post on January 5th
why January 5th? Because that is my 29th birthday and I'd like to celebrate with all of you by the ending of the year and the start of something new!

There will be no prizes- for fun only

That's only two sentences for a blogfest, but imagine the possibilities and that's the point. So come join me...

Around the Blogs...

Nughty or nice?

Fun things I've found getting ready for Christmas....

Have you been Naughty or nice? Santa can tell you right now Just put your name in his box and he will check his list....Santa's list
(I was on the nice list )

Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Night Before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas at Sunnydale High,
Buffy was training in the library with Giles,
The stakes were laid out on a table with care,
In hope that some vampires soon would be there.

Willow was giving werewolf Oz a flea-dip,
And Xander was trying so hard to be hip,
Cordelia was tossing and turning in bed,
While visions of Amex cards danced in her head.

Alone in his mansion undead Angel was thinking,
About Hellmouth demons and vampires, blood-drinking.
Spike had left town and was stalking Drusilla,
Unsure whether to love her or maim her or kill her.

Snyder was brooding, it made him quite huffy,
Trying to work out what to do about Buffy.
Then outside the library came such a clatter,
That Giles said 'Good grief! What on earth is the matter?'

He turned and faced Wesley who as usual was fretting,
Wesley's was all pasty and with fear he was sweating,
Thinking of demons made him shudder and shiver,
He dived under a table and hid there all of a-quiver.

"Giles, training is fun, but it's time to stop playing,"
Said Buffy, "It's high time I did some more slaying,
My stake's in my handbag," she said with a frown,
Then they all went outside to hunt demons down.

Out in the darkness such a sight met their eyes,
That the four of them gasped in shock and surprise,
A fat vampire Santa in an old rotting sled,
Drawn by eight reindeer, all zombies, undead.

"Once in a millennium, or so I've been told,
Comes undead Santa - I'm sure it's writ in some scroll,
The Council surely have details in their Watcher archives,
Meanwhile," said Giles, "Let's run for our lives!"

"Nope!" argued Buffy, eyeing flesh-eating reindeer,
"I won't have a vampire spoil this night of good cheer,
I wish Angel could help us, wish he was here with me."
Then Angel stepped from the shadows, said, "Buffy, forgive me."

Willow threw home-made powders "It's zombie repellent,"
The eight reindeer sneezed, Xander said "Excellent,
We've got eight sneezing zombies and a vampire in red,
And goodness knows what in that sack on his sled!"

While Willow and Xander tried some more tricks,
Buffy launched into somersaults, cartwheels and kicks,
"Die Comet! Die Cupid! Die Donner and Blitzen!
Die Dasher and Dancer! Die Prancer and Vixen!"

She stood back a moment and Giles gave a gulp,
The eight zombie reindeer were beat to a pulp!
The Angel called out in the midst of these capers,
"Buffy, the vampire! Don't let him escape us!"

The vampire's fangs glistened above the white beard;
"Must I really kill Santa? God this feels weird!"
A somersault took her right over the sled,
And she kicked him three times in the face and the head.

"Very nice little girl, but you need to be quick,
To stop me delivering," said the vampire St. Nick,
"In my sack I have gifts that will make you turn pale,
Enough to open the Hellmouth and destroy Sunnydale!"

Buffy got angry, it made her so mad,
To meet vampire St. Nick, this Santa gone bad,
So quickly she called on all her slayer's arts,
And planted her stake straight through Santa's heart.

In cloud of dry dust, vampire Santa exploded,
And Angel checked on the sacks which he swiftly unloaded,
"Best burn all the presents, they're pure evil," he smiled,
"With that I concur - here's some matches," said Giles.

"Oh dear, we killed Santa," said Buffy and sighed,
"Never mind, he was evil ... Merry Christmas, you guys!"

Parents night before Christmas

Just something to share with assembly required....

A parent's night before Christmas

'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house
I searched for the tools to hand to my spouse.
Instructions were studied and we were inspired,
In hopes we could manage "Some Assembly Required."
The children were quiet (not asleep) in their beds,
While Dad and I faced the evening with dread:
A kitchen, two bikes, Barbie's town house to boot!
And, thanks to Grandpa, a train with a toot!

Christmas Santa
We opened the boxes, my heart skipped a beat....
Let no parts be missing or parts incomplete!
Too late for last-minute returns or replacement;
If we can't get it right, it goes in the basement!

When what to my worrying eyes should appear,
But 50 sheets of directions, concise, but not clear,
With each part numbered and every slot named,
So if we failed, only we could be blamed.

More rapid than eagles the parts then fell out,
All over the carpet they were scattered about.
"Now bolt it! Now twist it! Attach it right there!
Slide on the seats, and staple the stair!
Hammer the shelves, and nail to the stand."
"Honey," said hubby, "you just glued my hand."

And then in a twinkling, I knew for a fact
That all the toy dealers had indeed made a pact
To keep parents busy all Christmas Eve night
With "assembly required" till morning's first light.

We spoke not a word, but kept bent at our work,
Till our eyes, they went bleary; our fingers all hurt.
The coffee went cold and the night, it wore thin
Before we attached the last rod and last pin.

Then laying the tools away in the chest,
We fell into bed for a well-deserved rest.
But I said to my husband just before I passed out,
"This will be the best Christmas, without any doubt.

Tomorrow we'll cheer, let the holiday ring,
And not have to run to the store for a thing!
We did it! We did it! The toys are all set
For the perfect, most perfect, Christmas, I bet!"

Then off to dreamland and sweet repose I gratefully went,
Though I suppose there's something to say for those self-deluded...
I'd forgotten that batteries are never included!

Crazy Holiday Blogfest entry

The important thing here is to write....and so with that in mind I have yet endured my fingertips and pens to another blogfest, The Crazy Holiday Blogfest

My Holiday: Christmas

My entry: 250 words or less....

I reached into the small box of my mother's old ornaments. My hand held a piece of fabric and a tear threatened the corner of my eye. I pulled out the small gingerbread doll made of brown felt material with a red ribbon trim. The left eye had fallen off many years ago and half a gingerbread cookie was still glued to the ornaments tummy. I remembered making this for her, I wanted her to see how great I could do, and I had fantasized about how much she would gush over a pretty hand made third graders gift.

But she didn't gush at all. She never said a word about it. Never told me how proud she was of it. There was only one thing she did that I could remember.

She hung it on the front of the tree every year until the day she died.

Christmas Tales Blogfest entry

And for my next trick...here is my entry for the Christmas Tales Blogfest:  requirements: (condensed can version) no more than 700 words, can be anything that includes Christmas including poetry.

Dear Santa,

I do not want a new Wii for Christmas or the new hot phone.
I do not wish for bags of faeries, toys, or clothes.
All I really want this year is my girls at home.

I want to see their smiling faces as they look under our tree,
I wish for laughter, voices, conversation, and the funny.
Please give our little apartment pictures worth our memory.

From a loving mother.

It's a record! 3 entries!

I know I'm crazy right? But here I am up to my tricks again and for this trick I have The Harry potter blogfest from In Time , the Mid-Winter Blogfest and the Through the key hole Blogfest.

And because I am doing all of them I will be combining the first two blogfests together HP and Mid-winter, that way you all are not reading forever!

Now for the Key hole blogfest I have to write basic description of a room and people guess what TYPE of person would have this kind of room. So here I go.

Fairies were trapped on the walls, hung in their picture perfect cages above the unmade queen size bed. The light from a lone window made their wings shimmer as if they floated in those pictures. The white walls backsplashed paintings, hand made, with sprinkling waterfalls and autumn forests.
The closet doors held hand made pictures from holidays with tiny little poems expressing love. Inside the closet were rows of multicolored clothes, mostly shirts. At the feet of the clothes was a pile of shoes, most of them black, but nearly all high heels.

A desk sat beside the closet. It was simple with metal legs and a wood top. A computer was on it with an image in the desktop of a blue fairy. Pens were kept in a can that looked as though it was made by a 6 year old. Papers scattered below the screen, a book lay on top of the mess.

Two dressers lined the walls next to two bookshelves. On the shelves inhabited note books, romance novels, children books, and older books to the likes of Edgar Poe and Jane Austin as well as journals. Leaving the room one thing caught my attention, a mirror for the dresser was backwards and a towel hung over it.

Alright and now the for HP/Midwinter Blogfest entry

 GIRL TALK

This was the first Christmas eve I would spend at Ginny's house. I haven't seen her since last year, and as I walked into the Weasley's house I watched in awe as Ginny descended the stairs. She has grown up so much in just a short time. Her hair is flat and straight, her skin is perfect. Behind her Hermione giggled walking down with her. I ran over to them both and gave them a hug.

"Did you just get in Summer?" Ginny asked.

"Yes just. How are you both?"

"Pleasantly well despite the attacks." Hermoine stated.

Each girl locked one arm of mine with theirs. We found cookies on the bed when we reached Ginny's room. I grabbed one of her pillows and laid back on it looking out the upstairs window. Snowflakes fell slowly outside like little puffs of clouds gently swaying to the ground. Some found our bedroom hideout and clung to the window only to quickly transform into a tiny drop of water and slide down the glass like a tear.

"Any one new we should know about?" Ginny asked as she pulled a box from under her bed.

 "No, You?"

"Harry," she sighed, " he doesn't have great skin, but he is strong, brilliant, and handsome."

"Ha Ha! Harry, really Ginny, you think he's...handsome. Its like talking about my brother." Hermoine chimed in.

"You have a thing for my brother." Ginny laughed. She placed the box on the bed and opened it slowly. "lets do things a different way, without magic."

I watched Ginny pull ribbons, styro-foam balls and tiny pins with fantastically designed heads. She laid them all out on the bed and we giggled, talked, and made ornaments til morning.

Weird me

My Weird me statement:

Phantasmagoric is one of the first words I ever had to look up in college, because of that (and it is a fantastic word) I fell in love with it and think it should be used more often.

What the cats say about my homework...

This is my last big weekend before the end of semester. My stomach is tied in intricate double bows as I'm studying my math final. I know I must do well in order to receive a "C" letter grade. In the last half of this semester I've pulled myself up from and "F" in math- it is by far my worst subject- math is a language I'm not capable of learning...

For the first time in the last three years my french teacher has finally warmed up to me, I received an "A" on my 15 sentence reply (in french) to a news report on Veils covering faces...My professor actually told me that I'd do well if I ever wanted to major in the french language and she would be more than willing to help me fix the 15 sentences into a writing sample for a degree in it. I of course told her politely my preference was English and writing. But what an accomplishment for me!

This weekend holds all my grades in fine lines....what happens next depends on my writing ability in my last two classes: Horror literature and Scottish Literature.

Horror, I must complete my 6 page film review of "Paranormal Activity" and then on Monday I will receive my take home writing assignments for my Final.

In Scottish literature I must finish my 10 page critical review of "Poor things" By Alasdair Gray connecting it with my class learning for my final grade. This also happens to be a paper I plan on sending in as my writing sample for my Masters Degree in English which will start this Summer as long as I can get all three letters of recommendation, the application, the fees, and my writing sample in before February. They are only picking 15 people to Participate in this Master program. I also have to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 for this semester and next semester in order to be accepted for this program.

And Finally I have to do my Final revisions for my short story publication.

Is it me or is everything happening so fast?
Please forgive me as I slack horribly on my blogging and commenting.
