If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

Scare me blogfest entry.

Today is the Scare me blogfest with Scifi Media.

The rules:

This is my first Blogfest and it will be happening on 10/31/12.  The purpose of the Scare Me Blogfest is to write about the scariest book that you have read, Movie you have watched, Ghosts you have encountered, and/or to share your own scary story.

My entry will be simple: The scariest movie I have seen was Paranormal Activity (The first one). I didn't sleep for a week because possession, ghosts, and demons scare the bees out of me. Partly because I believe it can happen. Just thinking about it makes me look around and hope every light in the house stays on and I'm really glad I have manly Man to sleep with.

Happy Halloween everyone!

Beta reading, cat forgiveness, and a job-

Happy Friday Friends!

I heard back from my beta readers- There are some character issues both I and Ebony need to face. Perhaps not exactly together more of a I'm going to write it, she's going to face it kind of way. Which then led to minor plot bunnies that needed more space. But yay! That means I'm getting there and I survived my first round of beta reading.
** Thank you Beta readers! You are amazing people***

What I learned this week:

  • Empty jars are like a blank piece of paper- you fill them up to create something new.
  • Small milk bones and large milk bones have the exact same value no matter if the puppy wants one or his older brother.
  • Cats will forgive you for bringing a puppy home- eventually.

I'm gearing up for NaNo- but many in the blogsphere are so I wont redo details here. But I'll be working on the sequel to 'Bloodstone.'

Every Friday I post places to submit your work on my Facebook Author Page - anywhere from flash fiction to novels depending on what's open to submissions. I post from 8am- 11am. Feel free to come on over.

News

I am no longer an intern editor. I have officially come to the payment part of editing as an independent editor. I'll be posting about the books I've helped put into the works in 2013.

I finally found what my family calls 'a real job' and will hopefully start it next week after a background check and drug test.

My cat- Sasha- trying to forgive me by drinking the puppy's water

Have you survived Beta reading?
How's your NaNo stuff coming along?
Do you have news to share?
Learn anything interesting this week?

Happy writing!

Writers Therapy Blogfest post

Today is Writers Therapy Blog hop

The rules:
To participate in the blog hop, follow these simple steps.
1. Write a post about what you use as your writing therapy (pinterest, chocolate, a TV show, book, ect) and how it helps you.
2. Pick a Writer Therapy badge and add it to your blog sidebar.
3. Have your blog post go up on the morning of October 22, 2012. We’ll post a new blog entry here early that morning with links.
4. If you sign up for the blog hop, make sure you comment on at least 5 other blogs on October 22.

My writing therapy boils down to two things.

1) reading- this helps my inspiration low because I'm getting new input from a different writer and it also helps me escape the confines of my own writing and what might be ailing me.

2) my writer friends/critiquing. Friends are great for getting stuff off my chest, bouncing ideas, and critiquing their work to take my mind off mine. They are a great source for inspiration or procrastination depending on the perception of it all.

Do you escape by book?
Are friends procrastination or inspiration for your writing?

Happy Writing!

Imps, Blogfests, and Next Big Thing

Happy Friday friends!

First there are a couple blogfests to be on the look out for:
Oct 22nd
Writer Therapy  Blog Hop
and
Oct 31st
Scare me Blogfest

I was tagged by Jadie Jones for the 'Next big thing blog hop.' Go check her blog out if you're not already a follower. She's a wonderful person and her debut novel is coming out in 2013.

Thank you Jadie for tagging me- this will be so much fun.

1) What is the working title of your book?
                          Bloodstone
2) Where did the idea come from?
Honestly, it just popped into my head while I was doing something mundane like playing on facebook. I wrote down the idea and soon sparks flew and suddenly I had  novel idea.

3)What genre does your WIP/MS fall under?
            Fantasy fiction- I think. LOL
4) What actors would you cast if your book is turned into a movie?

I would have Zooey Deschanel  as Ebony graves (Main character)

I would have  Ian Somerhalder as Kaige Donovan (love interest)

I would have Lindsay Lohan as Aurora Craven (the antagonist)

and Finally, Meryl Streep as Lady Charmaine (The head of The Jades)

5) What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?

Ebony Graves must face three challenges that test her abilities, awaken her magic, and make her look deeper inside herself: Can she survive uncontrollable rune magic and get her man?

LOL- That's the best I can come up with right now.

 6) Will your book be self published or represented by an agency?
              Represented hopefully.

7) How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
     Four months.

8) In genre, what other books would you compare your story to?

Similar to Kim Harrison and Patricia Briggs.

9) Who or what inspired you to write this book?

I was inspired by the idea itself.

10) What else about this book might pique the readers interest?

One of my more interesting characters is an Imp named Razzle who causes plenty of mischief within the novel. He finds everything looks better with a tail and his favorite food is Unicorn dung.

I now pass the next big thing on to the following writers:

Christine Rains
Elaine Smith
Greg Metcalf

Are you participating in any of the blogfest?
Did you ever let an imp mess around inside your novel?

Have a terrific weekend!

My Daughter, Jasmyne 11yrs, has started her own blog called Cheetah's Imagination and she is doing the young writers version of NaNoWriMo for the first time this year and plans to blog about her experience. She is my writerly child, takes after mom. :) Please welcome her to the community.

Friday: Postal, Look challenge Have you been tagged?

So many things to see and do this week.

First,Writer's Therapy is doing a blog hop. It's their very first one. And has everything to do with your own writing therapy. Go check it out and sign up- spread the word.

Second, every Friday I post places to submit your written work on my Face book page from 8-11am. Come check it out HERE.

Terri over at Scribbler's Sojourn has tagged me for a "LOOK at that" challenge.
The rules:
Count up the 'LOOK's in your current WIPs and choose your favorite three. Then post the paragraphs around the word.

I found 160 'look' or one of it's variants inside my 40,000 word novel. YIKES- I think I need to revise 90% of them!

Here are my 3 favorite paragraphs with the word in it:
#1
Ebony slipped out when the moon shone bright with a trickle of light invading the threshold of the horizon, as if it would spill over into the neighborhood at anytime. With her heart protesting in her chest, she opened the gate and looked back at her home for, what she hoped, was the last time. All the windows were dark and no movement stirred the drapes. She sighed, turned down the alley, and headed downtown.
#2
Ebony looked down at her three-inch footwear. Her feet already sore from wearing them a couple of hours. How in the hell would she manage to run in them?

            #3
“She has been rushed to the hospital. She siphoned your magic when the bullet hit her. Somehow she managed to stay breathing.” Lady Charmaine’s eyes held a look Ebony had rarely seen, compassion. Her eyebrows were raised and her lips were drawn down.

I'm tagging these 5 writers with this challenge- How many Looks do you have?
And now back to our regularly scheduled Stud and Studess for this week.
Steam punk style- because my writing brain is still playing there-

The Faerie Guardian Cover Reveal/Giveaway

I have a special treat for you all this week- not only am I posting more than once, but I'm helping out a fellow author.

Come check out a new book coming out soon.

 Title: The Faerie Guardian
Author: Rachel Morgan
Release Date: 5 Nov 2012
Add to Goodreads

Protecting humans from dangerous magical creatures is all in a day’s work for a faerie training to be a guardian. Seventeen-year-old Violet Fairdale knows this better than anyone—she’s about to become the best guardian the Guild has seen in years. That is, until a cute human boy who can somehow see through her faerie glamour follows her into the fae realm. Now she’s broken Guild Law, a crime that could lead to her expulsion.

The last thing Vi wants to do is spend any more time with the boy who got her into this mess, but the Guild requires that she return Nate to his home and make him forget everything he’s discovered of the fae realm. Easy, right? Not when you factor in evil faeries, long-lost family members, and inconvenient feelings of the romantic kind. Vi is about to find herself tangled up in a dangerous plot—and it’ll take all her training to get out of it alive.

[This novel was originally published in four separate parts:
Guardian, Labyrinth, Traitor and Masquerade. It includes bonus scenes at the end.]

Giveaway Time!

The bonus scenes at the end of the book are NOT written from the main character's point of view. If you'd like to win a $10 Amazon gift card, all you have to do is guess whose point of view these scenes are written from! Head on over to the cover reveal post at Rachel Morgan Writes and fill in the Rafflecopter form. There's a list of characters there that you can choose from. Good luck!
