If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

Discipline

I have come to learn something about myself as a writer. I don't just enjoy challenges and blogfests, they actually help me write. I need them in my own sick way to push myself forward.

Currently I'm enjoying myself on writing.com
I have accepted a 30 day Character sketch challenge that is doing wonders for my writing. I receive points for writing 500 words everyday on a prompt the Host sends me about my character.

I am using this to my advantage. I have had a story sitting inside me for a few months now, and when I saw the challenge I jumped at the idea of really diving into my character and trying my hand at writing everyday.

I've discovered that self discipline, when it comes to writing, is the hardest thing for me to overcome. And if I were ever to give anyone advice on writing and how to do it, I'd suggest participating in challenges that make you write at least 500 words every day.

How do you feel about writing challenges- do they encourage you to keep going or are they bothersome to you?

Summer, I have recently got back into writing after a 20 year hiatus. I used to have a pen pal, for seven years, that challenged me on a weekly basis - and how I loved to answer her challenges. Flash Fictiion is new to me, and "prompts" (I only recently learned this term) are a wonderful motivating factor. Good luck with your Character sketch. And, I love you blog.

I like challenges. They keep me writing even when the muse is MIA, and sometimes force me to do things I don't normally do--just wrote poetry for the first time thanks to a blogfest. Plus, it's just a neat way to connect with others and see how creative people in the blogosphere are.

I think that they can be very motivating. I rally enjoyed a story a day in May.

Luckily, I'm self motivated and dicsiplined. I've got an nner nag that would never let me get away from writing, exercising, cleaning, or eating wrong.

Good for you!! Yay!

I know my greatest weakness is my lack of writing discipline! I'm naturally lazy and baulk at any sort of challenges!! I know, I know, bad, bad, bad!! LOL!! But in my defense if a competition and/or blogfest piques my interest I go for it! LOL! Which brings me to my second failing as a writer. I don't follow through after a rush of adrenalin I revert to being lazy! Oh dear!! I guess there's no hope for me! LOL!

Take care

Challenges definitely encourage me to keep going. I don't usually slack off writing unless I'm really stuck in a project, but I love trying to meet new goals.

The one you're doing sounds like fun! I think they can definitely help. I mean, the energy and frenzy of NaNoWriMo always makes me put more words on the page than usual.

I so hear you on the self-discipline thing though. It's something I'm working on too. Good luck!

Sounds like the writing challenge is working great for you. Yay! I'm participating in a writing challenge right now, but I'm not doing very well yet. There are a few more weeks to go, so I'm not quitting yet! I think writing challenges are a good way to go.

My sensible voice tells me to try them more than I do ;)

I'm really pleased writing challenges work for you! For me just doing my blog posts each week is a challenge. But it has taught me I can write every day.
