Story a day

Inspiration drops from the sky like sleet, I can catch it and mold it into something new or let it splat to the ground with a sickening thud my muse finds horrendous. 

I'm two days into the Story-A-Day in May challenge and find that I'm inspired to write more than I was last year when I took part. I'm trying out a new genre- Steam Punk. I'll let you know later how it goes, but I find myself fascinated by the idea of Victorian age plus science fiction and adding in elements that make the story apart of me.

Update

Today is only the beginning. Despite the hardships of being a single mom, college student, and volunteer at two separate jobs, I graduate May 10th with my BA in English. I also managed to write an entire novel, but I'll tell you about that in another post.


I'm not fully back- but I'm close. I wanted to give a brief update, let you all know that I'm still around and writing.


I also want to thank all of you for sticking with me- despite my long absent.


The plan:

I missed you all so much, I'll be back as soon as I complete my last final for classes. I'll be posting and trying to catch up on what I've missed.


I am taking on the challenge of writing a short story every day in May.

Over the summer I will begin my extensive revision on my new novel.


With that said I leave you to your day. I'm looking forward to being back full time.

An embarking semester

Admittedly, Christmas break ran right through and now I have no more time left as yet another semester embarks it's journey through my life.


Please be patient as I am on Hiatus until the middle of May 2012.

Insecure Writers Support Group Post.

I never realized there is an art to insults until I began writing 'The Jade Coterie.' 

My two leading ladies are attempting to have it out with words, only they cannot be vulgar due to lady like situations and contests. 

So, I looked some "elegant" insults up and to my surprise they exist! Of course not often in the 21st century, but Shakespeare and Churchhill had it down to an art form, and one I wish I could learn.

My doubt- that I won't be able to wrap my writers brain around the style it takes in order to accomplish an elegant insult.

If Monday were Tuesday...

Mondays are always the days when you want just one more day before the weekend is over...of course if we actually had that then Tuesday would be the new Monday and the cycle would start all over anyways.


 I have my books for classes already.My reading list is slightly lower than it has been in past semester with a total of 13 books. Not to shabby for my last semester, at least for a while.

Technically I start on the 9th of January with two classes, and then I start two more on the 17th.


I'm working on Chapter 5 of 'The Jade Coterie' and found some terrific tidbits I'm planning on adding into the story including runes. I read one of my Manly Man's books about runic origin and how the 'magic' works. Surprisingly, it held my interest for the better part of an evening. But hey research is important when faced with things you don't know and writing about them.


 It's the new year, my birthday will come up this week and I'm turning the big 30. I'm not afraid of it really- I think it is an accomplishment. 
My goals: To finish 'The Jade Coterie' and this Summer take time away from everything and just write. Of course I will still be submitting work throughout the year in flash fiction and short story, but my goal will not be so much on publication as it will be on the writing.
