"People disappear when they die. Their voice, their laughter, the warmth of their breath. Their flesh. Eventually their bones. All living memory of them ceases. This is both dreadful and natural. Yet for some there is an exception to this annihilation. For in the books they write they continue to exist. We can rediscover them. Their humor, their tone of voice, their moods. Through the written word they can anger you or make you happy. They can comfort you. They can perplex you. They can alter you. All this, even though they are dead. Like flies in amber, like corpses frozen in ice, that which according to the laws of nature should pass away is, by the miracle of ink on paper, preserved. It is a kind of magic."
~~ Diane Setterfield, from the book The Thirteenth Tale

I used to have that book....now - I can't find it anywhere. But true words, nonetheless!
One day, I want to publish my blog....I'm just afraid of the cost. This is the only diary I've ever kept!
That's a wonderful kind of magic, YES! I love it. The voice, the mood, the humor--everything lives on. ;o)

Wow - that's a lovely quote!! The written word really is a form of magic, isn't it? Thanks for sharing! :)
This is why when someone you loves passes on you should write something about them...you can hold it close or share it, but then you have it forever....
Man that was prolific and inspiring. But give me til next week please. :)

That's so beautiful. I have to admit that that is one of the big reasons why I write. When I am gone, I want part of me to stay behind.
:-)
