If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

8 sentences from my novel Bloodstone

The second Ebony stepped past the first stone, the sun blinked out of the sky and darkness descended. The smell of rotting flesh seeped into her nostrils and pulled the bile from the back of her throat.

She threw up just as Aurora stepped past, missing her dress but catching Aurora’s shoes.

   Aurora jumped back. “Disgusting!”

Ebony wiped her mouth with the back of her bare arm, there wasn’t much else to use. “I’d say I’m sorry, but you deserved it.” Her stomach clenched.

Almost Night- Reveal

Credit for cover goes to: Claudia Mckinney of Phatpuppy Art (www.phatpuppyart.com) and font was designed by Ashley at www.bookish-brunette.com.

Fourteen-year-old Lilly Grey exists in two worlds at the same time.

She just doesn't know it. As the only albino in a million mile radius, Lilly is used to being different. Pink eyes and white hair aren't exactly the best camouflage in the harrowing jungles formally known as high school. And yeah, she's used to being an outcast and seeing the world in a slightly different way, but she never guessed how literally "different" applied to her.

Not until a clan of shape-shifting dragons tell her she's not just albino. She's a unicorn and the only mortal alive who can live on both Earth and its antithesis, Morcah. Now all those times she thought she saw a floating brown blotch in the sky or eyes peering out at her from the bark of trees make sense. She's been seeing Morcah, a land that exists in the exact same spot as Earth, just in a different phase.

But it's not all sunshine and rainbows for this unicorn. As the only one who can live in both phases, she's also the only one who can bring Morcah--and all its inhabitants--to Earth. And creatures who've been trapped on Earth since the Dark Ages are willing to do worse things than kill to make that happen.
Again.

Author Bio

Emily White lives in NY, wedged between two of the Great Lakes and a few feet of snow and ice.  She's spent most of her life running away from the cold, and even spent a year in Iraq, but now contents herself with writing her characters into warm, exotic places in faraway galaxies.  When not tapping away at her computer keys, she can be found reading, reading, and reading some more.  And when she's not doing that, she's usually playing video games with her husband, peek-a-boo with her kids, or walking through her garden, wondering why the bugs insist on eating all her vegetables.

Express yourself- 3-29-2013

I'm participating in the Express yourself Meme from Entertaining Interests.

As I child I found I adored books at an early age, but one genre really sucked me in and twisted inside my heart clutching until nails were imbedded under my skin...Horror. I was a huge fan of R.L. Stine and Christopher Pike. My favorite book series was Goosebumps of course.

The one book that stands out the most is The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight by R. L. Stine
I still have that book and several others, though my oldest daughter reads them now.

Check out this short interview-

8 sentences from my novel Bloodstone

To take her mind off everything, she grabbed the envelope off the night table. She flipped it open and pulled out a white card laced with black ribbon. The hand written card revealed the first challenge. A high-heel race set for dusk tomorrow evening. Evidently, every “lady” should know how to run in high heels.

Ebony looked down at her three-inch footwear, her feet already sore from wearing them a couple of hours. How in the hell would she manage to race in them?

The smell of garbage floated up again.

When I dare look again...

Passing Time: Nine Short Tales of the Strange and Macabre

 Book Blurb

Nine dark fiction stories that may just give you nightmares.

A man lives to regret Passing Time. A father will do anything to save his son in Expiration Date. An author finds out her worst nightmare is back in The Devil’s Song. A woman gets more than the claim fee when she takes out vampire insurance in Luna Black.

In Dining in Hell, the Death Valley Diner becomes the wrong place to stop.

A serial killer wants to add another file to his collection in The Vegas Screamer. In Eating Mr. Bone, an undertaker could meet an unfortunate end. A con man meets his first ghost in Land of the Free. And will truth finally be set free in The Letter?

 Excerpt from The Devil’s Song

I cover my eyes. “You’re not real. You’re not real!” I scream, stumbling backwards into the kitchen. The radio springs to life, and my favourite Vangelis track Tales of the Future begins playing at an ungodly volume. I reach for the volume control–but the radio is flung sideways out of my reach. It is impossible to cover both my eyes and ears, so I grasp the power cord and yank it free. The only sounds left are my beating heart, rapid breathing, and the continual chanting of the crows.

When I dare look again, the bureau is positioned under the living room window, my laptop upon it, and a ream of paper to the left. My writer’s mug–the one I smashed in joy when the last manuscript was finished–sits in one piece to the right. And a fire now blazes in the hearth, throwing an envelope of burning heat in my direction.

A voice–the one belonging to the scared author–has confirmed my worst nightmare is back. But a new, firmer, stronger voice tells me I cannot let history repeat itself. The new voice’s anger rises from deep within me and pushes away the fear that has choked me into silence. I cannot let my villain return to printed form.

8 sentences from my novel Bloodstone
* Sorry, I chose not to continue from last weeks mainly because I want to leave you all hanging- wondering what happens and why.

Lady Charmaine sat upright when he entered the room. The woman couldn’t see him despite her sense of his magic.
If anyone ever asked Razzle, Charmaine was over confident. His Master would find the bloodstone and beat the rebellion back. Charmaine wouldn’t even know what hit her.
Smelly human, he could claw at her insides and eat her fat while she gasped for air when his Master was through with them all.
Razzle giggled and licked his fingers. He sniffed the air.

He can keep his soul

"Sam's soul is on the line. Meira's will be too if she's caught, but that's a risk she's willing to take."

* If you are looking for the 600 follower giveaway click here *

Christine Rains is joining us today to answer three questions and then introduce you all to her newest Novella.  We'll keep it short and simple- with pictures.

  1) What is your favorite Word? Why?

      "Chocolate."

It's fun to say, rolling off your tongue as if in preparation to eat some. It's a sensual word to my ears. Plus, chocolate is one of my favorite things!

2) What does your writing area look like?

I have a little room stuffed full of games and books. My computer is on an old desk that's a bit shaky. Sometimes I end up with notes, receipts, books, and candies on it, but I work best when it's neat. At least when the spot in front of the screen is neat. There are painting by my son on the wall and a bulletin board with family photos. Not much else will fit in there, but it's my little writing space.

3) What is one line you didn't want to cut from your new novella The Harbinger, but knew you had to?

This is a difficult one. I'm a concise writer even on the first draft. There's a whole scene that I might cut, though. My favorite line from that scene:

Soaked feathers caught on something, and the roar filling her ears was no longer from the coliseum.

Title: 1304 The Harbinger (The 13th Floor series, #4)

Author: Christine Rains

Genre: paranormal romance

Release date: March 13th, 2013

Blurb:

Meira Harper loves both her jobs: talking about beautiful shoes and fetching souls for Zeus. But the Thunder God threatens the harpy's loyalty to her job when she receives the call to bring the soul of gorgeous Sam Wright. Meira pleads with her boss to let him live. Zeus agrees, but Sam must fight for his life. If Sam can win three challenges, he can keep his soul.

The gods never play fairly, though, so Meira needs to find ways to help Sam with the challenges. She cannot outwardly cross her master, but she refuses to let the man she loves lose his soul. They haven't even had a chance to start a life together.

Sam's soul is on the line. Meira's will be too if she's caught, but that's a risk she's willing to take.
