If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

Book review: Brigitta of the white forest

Hey there fairy friends!

I'll admit I don't have much time for reading these days but I got this fantastic book Brigatta of the white forest  by Danika Dinsmore and it was a quick and wonderful read.

It is a YA book about sister fairies who go on an adventure together learning along the way about the importance of family and maturity. This author also provides a very unique aspect to fairies I haven't heard of before- The wings can change as they reach a maturity level revealing what they are meant to do in life. The main character Brigitta has some harsh realities to face as she sets off to save her village. Problem is she must travel outside the safety zone and face all of her fears along the way.
This book is truly a gem. I will be encouraging my daughter to read it.

 Teaser from the book:
"That expression Ondelle had made, she suddenly realized what it meant. It was the look of someone who had just been warned."

Ooo, I love that cover! So magical.

I thought of you when I saw these posts of beautiful, old-fashioned illustrations in a fairy book (published 1914!): http://www.forgottenbookmarks.com/2011/03/year-with-fairies.html

That sounds like a very cute story. My daughter would have loved it when she was six or seven :D
I've read four of the Rainbow Fairy books - I believe in reading widely.

The fact that you want your daughter to read it speaks volumes. Great post. The take on fairies seems interesting. It would suck, having your label branded on you. Even if it was meant as good in the story, it would suck in life.

Image you, of all people, making time to read a fairy book. Well I never :)

Hi Summer! Thanks so much for your review. I really appreciate it. :-)

@ Elaine Smith - the book is actually aimed at 9-12 year olds. It's for those kids who have outgrown the Rainbow Fairy books and are looking for something more substantial.
