If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

Food Blogfest

Thanks to Jaded Love Junkie for hosting this wonderful Blogfest of food. Go take a look at what others have to say about food!

My submission will be a poem. It's based off a story I read about being forcibly fed back in the day. Here is the link to the literary short story for those interested: How It Feels to Be Forcibly Fed

Prescribed Dining
~By Summer Ross

Four men, one female,
a binding sheet, a table,
a starving choice.

Hands, hands, hands-
my Hips, my head and feet.
-Choke or Swallow-
Their suppressed satisfaction
like the clock- tick…tock…
Distress flows into me through
a red tube, helpless…weak...
Self-abandonment comes
with insertion,

They finished with me, an act…
This is what other women experienced,
science proves there is no right to die.

Disturbing. Reminds me of those foie gras geese force fed till their livers bloated up! I like how there appears to be a double meaning to your poem: force-feeding or rape? Not much of a poem person, but I like this one.

Wow, that was actually kind of disturbing (and I mean that in a good way). Made me think a lot. Nicely done. :D

I love the beginning of your poem. Very stark, with a lot of impact!

Wow. Poetry always amazes me on how it can say so much with so few words.

Cinette~ That's true, the meaning can be powerful with so little. :)

Ellie~ Thank you

Sondrae~ Thank you for reading and commenting

Carolyn~ yeah after reading the short article/story on it I was a bit upset and grossed out.

Old Kitty~ I'm glad you enjoyed the read.

Mankind has never been very kind. If you look at what passed for science and medicine in the not too distant past, you will be dubious about what passes for them now.

Sad commentary and evocative. Great job. Mother used to tell me that the rain was really the tears of angels. Your poem suggests why it rains so often. Roland

Wow, that is such a powerful and yet frustratingly disturbing. Why can't we choose what to do with our lives? You're quit the poet.

Roland~ The past is what it is, we should learn from it.

Clarissa~ Most of the choice was taken away at this time partially because of bad press. Crazy as it seems when the Suffragists movement came with the women and they locked the women up- they refused to eat and the hospitals and govt decided it would be bad press for these ladies to die so they force fed them. This is my knowledge of women being forcibly fed though- I'm sure there are other circumstances invcolved sometimes.

What a horrid thought - being force fed. I like the different takes on the Blogfeast.

Brilliant. First I thought it was a patient with bulimia/anorexia being force fed but it could be a number of situations other than this. It is very confronting but powerfully done..:)

I wonder what could be going through the minds of the four doctors. I think I've just been inspired for a story! I will also say it...well done!

Wow, you did a fantastic job of recreating the feel of the article, an intense piece itself! What a terrible violation. It's insane what humans can be capable of.

I love your choice of poem for this. A wonderful entry for the Blogfeast! Thank you for joining in.

Wow, good poem :D disturbing, for sure, and I would love to hear it aloud. I can almost pick up your inflection *I think* which is good...but I always seem to find more dimensions in poems when I get to hear authors read them. Hope you're going to readings around your town! :D

An anti-feast post. Very interesting - good job making everyone think a little differently here.

Your poem did the sentiment of the article justice. Poignant and intense. Such brutality.

A great alternative post. Tube feeding, that is the thing. A choice and an assault. The Suffragette posters are chilling.
