If I had to describe myself, it would be in a word that has many meanings with a complexity which falls off the tongue.
A word made up of many elements, is deceptive in appearance, and creates an illusion from the imagination.
My word would be Phantasmagoric. ~Summer Ross

Freebies and Follow Friday

Alison Can Read Feature & Follow

Q: What blogger would you most like to meet in real life? Tell us about him or her.

 Leigh Talbert Moore
Leigh is an indie author and blogs at That's Write. I've read one of her books Rouge- which is fabulous by the way you can find my review of it at goodreads. She's getting ready to release another book called Dragonfly.
I'd like to meet her because she seems like such a genuine person. Always quick to help, always replies to comments, and let's face it I'd love to pick her writerly brain in person.

A lapsed wiccan and handsome priest...

"Dammit straight to hell, I was being sacrificed again."

This is the first line in Maggie Shayne's novel Mark of the Witch book one of three. Shayne's leading lady is a feisty heroine named Indira who has to make a huge decision- save the human realm according to father Dom or save the demon trapped inside a portal.

The plot is fascinating. It takes the reader on many twists and turns that were unexpected and some that were obvious. I won't be putting any spoilers in this review. The choice Indira has to make is one readers could ask themselves 'what would I do in her situation' and I think that's what makes a plot well constructed.
The subplot plays a very distinct background role, it's more hinted at than anything else.

There is great tension between the leading female and leading male. And brilliant dialogue.

She closes up all the loose ends, for the most part yet leaves it open for the second book as well.
I give it four fairies.

The only reason I did not give this book a five was because the ending felt rushed to me. Otherwise if you like a bit of a mystery and some witchy magic- I'm sure you'll enjoy this book.

Does it sound interesting?

 Weekend Writing Warriors
Catch up: Ebony heard an intruder in her house in the middle of the night. She snuck to the kitchen, grabbed a cast iron pan, and hit the intruder over the head with it as he came into the kitchen. She turned on the light and he was passed out on the floor....

8 sentences from Bloodstone

She didn’t actually have any use for rope, but her father had always kept it around. Even though he passed right after her nineteenth birthday, at twenty-four Ebony still stored most of his things right where he’d left them. Thank God.

Ebony slipped the rope through the hook for the cast iron pan, tied it around the pan’s handle, and pulled the rope down to the chair. She slip knotted it so it couldn’t fall and then stormed over to the man on her floor. Anger boiling over, just who did he think he was? This was her fricken house. She grabbed both of his hands and pulled as hard as she could. God he was heavy.

Friday- Freebie and feature follow.

**Kindle freebies at the end of this post**

Q: The #FF is 150 weeks old! And we want to hear from you! What would you change about the hop? What do you like about it? Or just suggest a question to be used for next week!

I like reading the answers everyone comes up with.
I don't really know anything I'd change about the hop. It's pretty awesome.
A Question for next week:
What's a favorite line from a  book you've read?

And now for Friday Freebies on kindle: Send me an e-mail if you'd like me to post your freebie next Friday or if you know of a freebie you'd like to see me share. I'd love to spread the word.

Secondary Characters Blogfest

What draws me in about a character is often how unique they are, quick wit, and their own special ticks. This not only holds for main characters, but secondary characters as well. Today is the Secondary Character Blogfest in honor of Rachel celebrating her new book Secondary Characters to release May 28th.

My favorite secondary character is Jenks from Kim Harrison's  Hollows novel series. He's a pixie with a chip on his shoulder hold up with a witch trying not to smudge her aura with black magic doing runs to take down the bad guys and a vampire in lust- all living in a church.

His dialogue always makes me laugh- in general because he references tinker bell in some of the rudest ways. I really like Tinker Bell- but a fairy is bad news to a pixie and Tinker Bell is like a curse word for him. But Jenks is a side kick, granted a little one- but he has mean skills when it comes to a fight.

Teaser: Ridicules declaration

It's Tuesday teaser.
I'm still reading the same book-

"I love you danced on my tongue and knocked on my teeth, and I clamped my jaw to prevent the ridiculous declaration from leaping out.
When it was safe to speak, I managed to say, 'good night, Tomas.'
But to my own ears it had sounded just the same as the words I'd refused to say." pg 168

You can't prove nothing.

It's amazing what you don't notice when you're tired. I let Deuce out one morning and headed straight back to bed. I woke about an hour later, walked into the kitchen, looked out the window, and here's my Mastiff puppy playing with a stuffed bench.
I made a cup of coffee, got dressed, and realized there was strange material all over the back yard.
I ran for the back window and looked again.

(Stuffing from the bench)

Deuce said,"You can't prove nothing."

 Weekend Writing Warriors

8 sentences from my current WIP Bloodstone

She pulled the pan back and the door hinge creaked. Without another thought, Ebony swung the iron as hard as her small form would allow hoping to make contact with the intruders face. It connected with a sickening thump and she dropped the pan not expecting it to hurt when she hit him. The male form fell to the floor.
She flipped a switch and light flooded the kitchen. Broad shoulders slack against tile and his face had turned away from her toward the stove. Whoever the hell he was, Ebony intended to make sure he knew he’d just screwed up. Acting quickly she pushed a chair against the stove and grabbed some rope from under the sink.

Seeking Submissions

Erotica- yes I said it. Breathless Press (doesn't that sound enticing?) is seeking submissions for several different lines from down right hot and bothered to simply romance.

Looking to try to write something new? Check out the themed submissions and create something you've never tried. Afraid to attach your name to something a little steamy- Give yourself a pen name and take a walk on the wild side.

Right now they are taking submissions for most lines and a few anthologies. One in particular caught my interest- Ravaged Anthology. (Sounds yummy.)

Here's the deets on the Ravaged Anthology:
"Ravaged Anthology: Must have shifters of some kind, 10k words or less, heat rating of at least 3 (Explicit love scenes with graphic or strong language.). Open February 1, 2013 Closes July 30, 2013"
~
Electronic submissions only in a .doc-compatible (or .rtf) file. Attach full manuscript to email.

Send query to: acquisitions@breathlesspress.com See above for definition of Lines. The body of your email should contain your query, followed by a short synopsis (no more than five pages).
