Andaya concentrated on the panthers. She thought of their slick dark fur, yellow eyes, and them helping her with the last shadowed monster. She pleaded in her mind for their strength and held her breath. A heavy sensation settled between her shoulder blades. Her arms worked alone as they peeled her from the sticky black substance. The sensation did not lift until Andaya's feet stood firmly on the ground. As soon as she steadied herself the built up pressure lifted as if it were a great release.
“Time to run!” Moon Meadow yelled.
“What do you mean time..to...” Andaya watched in horror as a huge slimy black beast slopped into the hole diminishing the moon light with it's bulky slick frame. Black goo dripped from its mouth and fell with a sick thud to the non-compliant sticky ground. She broke in to a run. “Do they all drool?” Andaya asked in short gasps following the bright pixy down the tunnel. The walls were covered in black slop as well as the ground, it was everywhere.
“I guess. I don't enjoy running into him much,” Moon meadow said.
Andaya snuck a glance behind her shoulder, nothing. She stopped.
“Why isn't it following us?” Andaya asked. The pixy darted to Andaya's shoulder to see.
“I don't know...” Andaya held her breath, the pixy's wings no longer fluttered. Nothing. Andaya turned in small sections to look all the way around, no sound and no monster. She took a couple steps forward, her foot landed in a very warm puddle.
“Moon Meadow, would you light up above my head?” Andaya whispered. She held her breath as the pixy fluttered slowly up. A huge pile of drool slopped over the pixy and landed on Andaya. The stench alone as it slimed down her face, covering her in sticky ugliness, made her pass out as it entrapped her form.

I haven't seen a Pixie character in forever! I'm seeing this Block Goo Thing kinda like the alien that killed Denise Crosby's character in Star Trek TNG, does that sound right?
Will~~ I actually haven't watched that much Star trek so unfortunately I'm not sure I would know LOL
Summer this was really nice! I loved the last sentence, especially at the end "made her pass out as it entrapped her form." very strong. I love your stories and the thought of pixies is something I'm just in awe of!!! Love, love, love pixies!!!
Thanks for this!! I look forward to your fairy tale entry on Monday! I joined in on that fun!
Jen~~ I don't know if I can produce something in time for that blogfest. I haven't actually signed up for it because I was afraid I'd be too busy to pull something out of my head..I wish I knew a good fairy- fairy tale...hmmm maybe I'll research online and if anything sparks my interest I'll sign up and post, but it would really have to get me. :)
This presented a powerful, complete image, wonderful job Summer!! I love Pixies. :) I sort of saw the black goo thing more like the blob from the old movie. :D
Jules @ Trying To Get Over The Rainbow
Jules, hmmm hadn't thought of that...
I was scared and disgusted at the same time. Ugh, what is that thing?
Great job. I was drawn into the story.
Theresa~~ he's a shadow demon. :) thanks for the comment.
Nice! I think you're brave for using a very active scene for this blogfest :D and it really, really works. I think you could use a few different-but-synonymous words for "goo" and "slop" to me that just puts the stuff on and around the characters and I didn't have a clear idea of the source. Could be me :P But I think the more word variety the more accurate a picture of the precise type of goo (moving blob circa the movie, or the shifting, sliding, humanoid-form-adopting puddle from TNG). But I think that's the only constructive bit I have.. This was a really fun read. I really want to know more. And I <3 your names! Thanks so much for sharing :D
Drea~~ yup- I struggled with more slop formations until my brain hurt. thank for the new ideas though!!
ewwwww! I totally loved this! I wanted to flick the lights on but was afraid to! lol Great job!!! I feel all perfectly slimed now.
Okay. Gross. Totally Gross, which is a good thing because you brought me there. I'm completely grossed out by that creepy demon (can't think of a word other than gross to paint what I feel--just got back from hiking and I'm exhausted. This is my fav -- "Andaya watched in horror as a huge slimy black beast slopped into the hole diminishing the moon light with it's bulky slick frame." Now it's dark and gooey -- Yuck. Love it!!! :D
Michelle~~ LOL thanks for the comment.
Brenda~~ I am very glad to gross you out...lol Thanks for commenting.
Hi,
Well, what can I say: it carried me away, and I adored the name Moon Meadow!
I always think of faeries when the May Flies emerge and dance in the dappled sunlit glade near the pond.
best
F
Francine~~ thank you for your comment, wonderful image for me by the pond. thanks for commenting.
I love Moon Meadow...I agree a bit with Drea above tho, and her suggestions are excellent!
Great Job, Summer.
Great scene. I can totally picture it.
Nicely done!
Beautifully visual. Love the names of the characters, too!
Wow! The Pixy lighting the way and seeing that?!
I had fun reading your extract.
Damyanti~~ I'm thinking its right too.
Christine and Liz~~ thank you.
Elaine~~I'm glad it was fun to read.
Oh, gross! What a vivid description of both the supernatural help and the drool. I liked this entry a lot.
Edge of Your Seat Romance
I think I would want to pass out too! Liked it, very descriptive:)
Summer - I'm a fairy fan. This was nasty - in a great, slimy way. Hope they're going to be ok?
Ooh, how grotesque! Nicely done!
Great descriptions! I loved the last sentence especially, well done! ;)
Best of luck for your entry. It was great!
I think what I like about this most is that it focuses most on TACTILE imagery, like stickiness and warmth. Paints a completely different picture than people who focus on visual imagery, and a worthwhile one. Well done!
I'm sort of grossed out...but in a good way! lol You described it very well, with the drooling and the nasty and...eww. haha And a pixie? Very cool! :)
Well done! Here was my initial reaction: Ew followed by yuck and gross! In other words, congratulations, Summer, way to word paint! Did I mention I have a soft spot in my heart for pixies?
Oh! And I also have something for you over on my blog. Swing by if you get the chance. :)
Ghastly. Ugh. A monster that drools.
Way coool. Oh, I just love pixie's.
I get the same image a Will, BTW. Nicely done.
.......dhole
Pretty grotesque. Shadow demon huh? Excellent word painting even if gross..:)
Nice work. A pixie and something not so pleasant to describe. I was a little confused at first but that didn't last long and from there I wanted to read more. Thanks for entering the blogfest.
